Free Focusing Event in Grey Lynn Auckland

On 19th December at the Auckland Buddhist Centre there will be a free taster session introducing Focusing. 2.30-4.30pm. Booking is essential.

David Rome, an experienced Focusing Trainer and meditator in the USA wrote:

‘As meditators we invest a lot of time and effort in cultivating the mental skills of mindfulness and awareness. The practice of Focusing builds directly on these skills to develop action-oriented intuitive insights into the challenges we encounter “off the cushion.” Using contemplative methods from Western psychology and philosophy, Focusing puts us in touch with the subtle level of experience known as the felt sense, where the non-conceptual wisdom of the body can be unfolded. Focusing is a powerful means for working with problems in personal relationships and work settings and gaining fresh understanding and energy with which to overcome blocks, make wiser decisions and feel more fully alive and authentic’.

Focusing events in Auckland

Focusing events in Auckland
Last weekend I ran an Introduction to Focusing workshop at Auckland Buddhist Centre. The general sense at the beginning of the workshop was of interest and curiosity. By the end, people commented on how pleasantly surprised they were by their experience. Two people spoke of the connection they felt with one another when they worked in a pair. One of the women said she could feel the presence of her focusing partner even though she had her eyes shut.
Sensing another persons presence with us can have a powerful effect.
I am interested in your thoughts and experiences.
I have been running one to one focusing sessions in Auckland. The responses have been positive and focusing has come quite naturally for the individuals involved. I feel much pleasure keeping company another person on their journey.
If you have attended a workshop or one to one focusing with me, please share your experience/thoughts/views/comments…

Reflections

Since we are all individual and have a different life history, words too are unique in their meaning.

We use words that are popular within our culture and society. Words that are in trend. However, it may be that when describing our inner experience, these words can block us.

It is therefore important as Gendlin advises, to check inside to see if our description ‘fits’ with our experience.

My thoughts arose from a discussion I had this morning; a woman I have been teaching focusing to, noticed that a word ‘people’ use to describe a sensation she had, didn’t actually ‘fit’ with her experience.

I’d be interested in your comments…

Focusing

What is Focusing?
Focusing is a way to connect and come into relationship with ourselves more fully. It encourages an openness and  a non judgmental kindness. We can learn ways to ‘be with’ what feels difficult (and good) in us.
By allowing deeper parts of ourselves to be acknowledged and heard, change  happens…
